LARGE ANIMAL RESEARCH STATION (LARS)
The R.G. White Large Animal Research Station (LARS) is a 130-acre facility operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Established on the historic Yankovich homestead, LARS focuses on research, education, and outreach involving northern large mammals: particularly muskoxen and reindeer. Since welcoming its first muskoxen in 1964, the station has become an internationally recognized center supporting studies in reproduction, nutrition, energetics, and behavior. Its herds provide valuable opportunities for both biological research and student training in wildlife and veterinary sciences, while also contributing to the development of sustainable reindeer agriculture in Alaska.
